September 8th, 2017 Miller Place Goes Gold

Total Raised: $5750

The Thomas Scully Foundation, was founded in loving memory of Thomas Scully, who at the age of 12 lost his life to an aggressive malignant brain tumor. There is a hole in our hearts that can never be replaced.

As his parents, when thinking about the foundation we wanted Thomas to be our mission; his aura, his spirit, what he went through, what he loved, what we went through as a family. With all of this at the heart of the foundation, we founded our mission; To bring “A Little Bit of Happiness” to children with cancer today, while supporting a cure for tomorrow.”

Our plan is to create and deliver themed care packages called “A Little Bit of Happiness” to children with cancer. We are already working on a plan for our first care package, with Dr. Magic of MagicAid, that will be called “Thomas’ Bag of Tricks”.

As the foundation grows, we would like to provide funds to families seeking innovative treatments for their child and/or fund research. Before we can do any of this, we need to raise awareness of this deadly disease and fundraise.

Miller Place, being our hometown, provided us with the opportunity and support to do both. We would like to thank the Miller Place School district and the athletic department, Dr. Cartisano, Karen Burkhart, Stacey Hammond, Steve Winkler, Ron Petrie, Greg Murphy, Dom LoRe, all football Coaches and staff, and all cheerleader staff, for allowing us the forum to accomplish this.

A huge thank you goes to the amazing kids on the varsity football team and varsity cheerleading team. We are so proud of what you have done and continue to do to help raise awareness for childhood cancer and Thomas’ foundation. You helped bring close to 1000 people to the #MPGOINGGOLD event and because of that were able to raise $5750 to launch our foundation.

We would like to also recognize the JV football team and coaches, as well as the middle school football team for helping raise awareness for Childhood Cancer. Everyone has been so supportive of our family and now of Thomas’ foundation.

We would like to take the time to also thank and recognize these individuals (in no particular order) who helped in various ways; volunteered their time/services, participated at the event, helped with setup, provided financial support or promoted/covered the event and The Thomas Scully Foundation: Jami Smith, DUKAL Corporation, Heather LLorca-Kropp, Aimee Kenline, Stephen Stack, Giana Iaconetti, Tom Kasperowicz, News 12-Amy McGorry, Colleen Pizzo, PJ Sports-Matt LoNigro, Caitlin & Charlie Newby Signs, The Doyen Family, The Manzo Family, The Sapienza Family, The Moribito Family, The Fitton Family, Tyler Hodella, The Murphy Family, The LoRe Family, Juliet Brunet, our board members Liz & Gerry Bryne, Kenneth Fisher and all the boys who helped.

A special thank you to Jimmy Jr. Scully and Blake Doyen for volunteering their time to help with anything and everything that needed to get done.

We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who came out to the event, donated, provided, words of encouragement and support. Without all of you, the event wouldn’t have been what it was. We feel we accomplished what we set out to do that night. We know Thomas was there. It was evident in the smiles of all who came out to show support.
